What's New
TurfTrax Weather System rolled out
Ascot Racecourse in Berkshire has become the latest to install a TurfTrax Weather System that allows better-informed decisions to be made regarding the condition of the course's surface.
The system provides a comprehensive log of atmospheric conditions as well as factoring in elements such as ground and soil temperature for the specific location in which it is situated.
"TurfTrax manufactures and operates products that are relevant to all sports where knowledge of sporting surfaces is imperative. Racing is a key market, but the timing is right to expand into new areas," says TurfTrax chairman Adam Mills.
The system's advantages over local and regional weather records are an improved level of detail and accuracy. Information can be assessed through a password-protected website or handheld device, and SMS messages can be sent out to warn of any adverse or unusual weather conditions affecting the sports or recreational surface.
TurfTrax was formed in 2000 by a group including soil physics/sports turf lecturers. In 2003 the UK Horseracing Regulator approved the company's GoingStick and since January 2009 every turf racecourse has to use the device, under the rules of racing.
